Bio:
Gilbert Auguste Privat (1892-1969) Watercolor Painter and sculptor
in Bronze, stone and plaster. His Art Deco era sculpting subjects
were generally female, sometimes with children or animals. He did
many custom commissions in his life and was honored with a
retrospective of his work in 1972. Listed in Benezit, and winner of
the prestigious Prix de Rome award.
He began
exposing his work in 1921, where he won the Prix de Rome and a
mention, a silver medal in 1925, gold in 1926 at the Salon des
Artistes Français and another gold from the Société des Arts, des
Sciences et des Lettres, and a silver medal from the City of Paris.
He was awarded the Chevalier de la Légion d'honneur in 1948. Other
shows include the Salon d'Automne, the Salon du Dessin et de la
Peinture à l'eau, and individual show in Paris 1932, Lourdes
1941-43, Pau 1943, and others.
He received
the medal of honor in 1968, becoming a member of the jury after
that. He exposed in numerous other shows and was Laos a member of
the jury of Artistes Décorateurs. His work was commissioned for many
public buildings and monuments in France between and after WW1 and
WW2, and even in California. His work has been shown in numerous
museums.
