Panther statue by the Belgian female artist, Michele Decoux.
Very nicely done, ideal size for a paperweight on a desktop or a
decoration on coffee or side table. High quality with a nice
weight. On the original black marble base.
Wonderful polished copper finish over the bronze, with a beautiful
patina.
Signed: Coudex on the black marble, a pseudonym for Decoux,
and 'Bronze" stamped into the metal in 2 places.
Bio: Michele Decoux (1837-1924)
Belgian artist who moved to Paris during the Art Nouveau era.
Specializing in bronze animal statues, especially wild cats;
panthers, leopards and lions.
Her streamlined and realistic feline statues were expertly finished
with fine finishes and detailing.
Decoux also excelled in the use of cold cast painting, which brings
her statues to real life with an exceptional patina.
Dimensions: 11 7/8" wide, 2 1/2"
deep, 5 1/4" high.
Condition: In very good original
condition, patina intact. The base has a few flea bites consistent
with age.
