Art Deco Porcelain lady with pair of
panthers
Sculptor: Hans Harders for Fraureuth Kunstabteilung
Circa 1917-26, Germany
Wonderful and Rare high Art Deco
large fine porcelain statue depicting a beautiful woman,
draped in a one shoulder toga, decorated with hand painted gold
scrolls at the bottom of the gown, arm bands, bracelets and a
headband with large earrings.
She is wearing matching gold thong shoes and is carrying a
decorative bowl.
By her side are a pair of sleek panthers who appear to be her pets
as she is gazing down on them admiringly.
Perhaps their dinner is in the bowl she carries.
Very fine details in the porcelain,
her hair and face are elegant and her body graceful.
The form on the panthers is sleek and muscular. The nails on their
paws are detailed and the faces show respect.
The hand painted gold details accent the piece beautifully.
The top side of the base is painted in a dark forest green (grass)
with gold trim at the edge.
This piece was also offered painted
in soft neutral tones, without any gold-the panthers painted
with brown spots as leopards, the woman with dark hair, brown bowl
and a grey toga.
Signed 'Fraureuth Kunstabteilung' on
underside of base. Circa 1917-26 (mark)
Stamped # 3 twice (possibly the model #) and an incised # 2
(possibly the edition), all on underside.
Painted 3 leaf clover on the base and topside of the bowl carried by
the woman.
Faint artist signature in the mold, on the top side of the base,
near the panther's tail; Hans Harders.
Fraureuth Kunstabteilung was a
porcelain factory founded in 1865.
After the first world war, they just did luxury pieces, until the
factory closed in 1926.
Artists that designed for FK were: Ernest Broedel, Anton Grath, Carl
Nacke, M. Hermann Fritz, Hans Harders.
Although most records did not survive, there is a very informative
collector's website on this factory, linked here: http://www.fraureuth-porzellan.de/

Glazing repair needed by the panthers foot and her foot, on the
