French Art Deco
Fall Front Secretary Cabinet
Possibly Ruhlmann or Christian Krass
Circa early 1920’s, France
cabinet made of exotic Bur Amboina (now an extinct species of wood)
With a beautiful contrasting inlay in a diamond pattern on the drop front door and at
the stair-stepped top,
in a linear fluted pattern. The top acts as a pedestal, ideal for
placing an important vase or statue.
The interior is
fitted and has a leather desktop area, which appears to have been
Bronze Melon shaped fluted feet, we believe this was originally
displayed on a separate raised
pedestal under the feet, that was likely signed. Along the way,
someone has removed the pedestal,
leaving this beautiful piece of furniture a mystery.
The lower cabinet
consists of 4 drawers with dark lacquered wood pulls, also of Amboina.
