French Art Deco Gilded Bergeres / Arm chairs, Pair
Probably Paul Follot
Circa 1920’s, France

 

Gilded pair of Designer French Art Deco Upholstered Occasional Chairs.
Carved wood with gesso, skillfully water gilded with 23 carat German gold.
Twisted rope frame detail with large spheres at the point where the leg and arms meet.
Carved melon feet that taper and are finished at the floor with a small sphere finial.
The top back has a decorative center design with a subtle stylized
floral design, typical of the roaring 20’s in Paris.

Unusual and elegant design. Very comfortable.

Wonderful small scale, low profile modernist club armchair, ideal for apartments,
condos or smaller rooms with lower ceilings where you desire a Modern seating area.
Square design, and only 31" wide, deep and tall, overall.

Sculptural overall design with a tight seat and back cushions that are firm yet comfortable
and stay tailored looking. The tight seat cushion is sewn into squares
give a modern tufted look with a very 1930’s Modernist feel. 
The design is repeated on the back cushion and larger sewn rectangular
design sewn on the sides. Solid back with seams only. 
Curved, L shaped satin finished steel legs. 

The black leather has a white contrast top stitch detail.
The white leather has a uniform white top stitch.

Circa 1950’s, Italy

Recently these elegantly sculpted chairs
were made popular again
by the use of the chairs in a well known hotel project
designed by noted architect/designer Philippe Starck.

Well constructed of solid brass, we have just nickel plated them for a very highly polished silvered look, which is set off nicely by the rich new black velvet upholstery. Very Glamorous!

Circa 1986, American

 

Art Deco inspired chairs created by noted furniture & interior designer,
the late great Jay Spectre. Spectre designed an entire collection for
Century Furniture back in the 1980’s. It was quality construction with
an Art Deco inspired contemporary flair.

These sleek chairs have a bleached hardwood (white oak) frame
and round tubular chrome plated front legs. Very architectural design.

These actual chairs were photographed for the May 2008
"Great Design" issue of Architectural Digest !

Very elegant French Art Deco Club Chairs designed by the master of Art Deco.

The width dimensions allow these chairs to be used in a variety of configurations.

Macassar Ebony solid frame with sycamore inlay.
Decorative 'dots' border the top edge of the wood back and back area of the arm rests.
Linear inlay of sycamore on the top front area of the arm.
Hand Carved melon style feet.
You will find a few variations of this chair in the Ruhlmann books.

Just upholstered in a ultra soft saddle brown leather
that compliments the macassar ebony frames perfectly.
Trimmed in individual shiny nickel nail heads that have been painstakingly applied by hand,
as they would have been originally done. ( no tack strips were used )
The nail heads outline the side and back profiles as well as the inside arms
and also border the macassar ebony base of the chair.
